William Hatch Elementary School PTO
Hatch School
Math-a-thon Challenge
This program is designed for students in grades 1-5 who
enjoy math. We know the more students are given the
opportunity to do math computation, the better they will
do in learning math concepts throughout their education.
This program is not meant to take the place of the
math program in school, but to enhance students' learning
of math computation. The guildelines are as
follows:
- Students will be given a pre-test at their grade
level. This pre-test will determine what skills need to
be taught.
- Students will be given a packet of worksheets at
their grade level. We will set up a schedule to teach
those skills. Students will have the option of taking the
packets home to work on, or working on them during
lunchtime.
- When packets are complete, students will be given a
post-test in school to determine if those skills have
been mastered. If there are some weak areas, students
will need to master those skills in order to move to the
next level. All skills must be mastered in order to move
to the next grade level in the program.
- Pre and Post-tests will be given during the lunch
hour.
-
Schedule for the Week:
-
Monday: Grade 1
-
Tuesday: Grade 2
-
Wednesday: Grade 3
-
Thursday: Grade 4
-
Friday: Grade 5
- At lunchtime, daily announcements will be made to
remind students to go to their study groups.
- When a grade level is mastered, students will earn
points. There are ten lessons per grade level. Students
will earn 10 points per lesson. It is possible to earn
120 points per grade level mastered.
Are you up for the Challenge!! We are
looking for a few great students who enjoy math
computation, learning skills and earning points for the
Hatch School Math-a-thon.
Sincerely,
Sheila Y. Carter
