We are parents, guardians, staff, teachers and patrons of Hatch Elementary. Our purpose is to foster a sense of support, pride, and enthusiasm for the school. Through various family and community activities, the PTO promotes positive school and community relationships to enhance the educational environment for our children.

District 97 has developed a digital backpack program as part of its ongoing commitment to reduce the amount of paper we use. Hatch's Digital Backpack can be accessed here: Hatch's Digital Backpack.
"I decided to jump on the technology wagon and start a blog for the library. The main purpose of this blog is to preview new materials that are in the library. I will write booktalks for some of them, post booktalks the children have written, and let the students post appropriate comments about the books they have read." - Jennifer Parker. May 10, 2011 - The 2011-2012 Proposed Budget put to a vote by the membership at its regular meeting. A copy of the proposed budget is available here (pdf - 29K).
March 14, 2011 - The Hatch and Whittier Parents Teachers Organizations co-hosted a forum on the upcoming Referendum. A video was taken during the forum. It is provided here courtesy of Libbey Paul. Select the movie reel graphic to download and view (mpeg4 format; 62MB).
November 9, 2010 - The 2010-2011 Budget was approved by the membership at its regular meeting. A copy of the budget is available here (pdf - 29K).
The School Improvement Team exists in each school in District 97 as a forum for collaboration among the school community's main stakeholders-teachers, parents, and the principal. The purpose of the collaboration is for the community to develop a shared understanding of what aids and impedes the school's success. The SITs use this understanding to develop priority goals for improvement at their school. School staff and parents then implement the priority goals in school policies and activities.

Pam Oettel, a Hatch parent, created this writing contest to encourage children ages 8-12 to write. She started this contest in 2006 in honor of her Mother, Betty, who encouraged all of her children to both read and write at an early age. The Oak Park Education Foundation raises funds to bring artists, scientists, architects and technology experts into District 97 classrooms to conduct hands-on projects with more than 2,600 students every year. The Ed Foundation currently runs 4 award winning programs: Art Start, Global Village, Architecture Adventure and Vex Robotics.
